modern furniture. We are also lighting manufacturers of shades and lampshades. Our leather parchment lampshades and rawhide lampshades are a unique offering to home lighting and residential lighting. We have 3 sizes of chandelier shades in our rawhide shade collection. Rawhide shades because of the hand stitching are great decoration lampshades. Our lamp shades go well with a desk lamp, table lamp, floor lamp, chandelier or a wall sconce. Masterpiece
Lamps and Shades has it's sales office and warehouse located in
Clearwater, Florida. All of our designer lamps, wrought iron lamps,
carved lamps, rawhide shades and leather parchment shades are stocked
here for immediate shipment to our customers. In a 20,000 square
foot workshop on 55,000 square feet of land just south of Lima, Peru,
some 30 Peruvian artisans and craftspeople work under the guidance of
Randall James Cook to produce the lamps and shades that you see depicted here.
They were chosen because each was an expert in his or her particular
field: drying and preparing hides; sewing and assembling parchment;
wood turning and carving; iron work; pottery of a style and type that
goes back hundreds or, in some cases, thousands of years. Cook selected
"artesanos" who knew their business and the result is a
level of workmanship which is visible in every lamp and shade
produced: these lamps and shades look just as much at home in a
five-star hotel or a Manhattan office as they do in a ranch house in
the Southwestern United States. There is no compromise on quality of
manufacture and finish.
Randall James Cook Randall James Cook began his
career in general carpentry and cabinetry and went on to making
moldings for picture frames. This took him to Lima, Peru, where he
established a large workshop and center employing Peruvian
craftspeople and artisans. He gained great familiarity with the range
of excellent wood available. He also delved into Peruvian folklore and
art and fell in love with the amazing and diverse cultures ranging
from the Spanish Colonial to the Inca and Pre-Colombian. From picture
frame moldings, Cook went on to manufacturing Spanish Colonial
reproduction furniture to export to the US, a successful business
which he continues to this day. Then a client asked
Cook if he could provide leather parchment lampshades. So Cook
turned his design talents to a new field. Two Peruvian leather
specialists joined the team, bringing with them their knowledge of
hide preparation and also cutting and hand sewing the shades. The
operation has grown to a total of 7 people producing an extensive line
of elegant and functional fine leather parchment shades. This led naturally to
designing and making lamps. Whether they are of wood, iron or
ceramics, Cook's designs are unusual and striking. His purpose is
not just to produce another lamp. He sees the lamp as not only a
source of light but a work of art which can add beauty to any
environment. His aim is to design and produce lamps which are out of
the ordinary: his own contemporary and traditional designs or
reproductions handcrafted by traditional methods in a country which
has produced skilled artisans for thousands of years. Contact Randall James Cook at Randall@masterpiecelampsandshades.com
