electricians with spot light / down light experiance help!!!!?
hi there i'm wanting to install some 240v spot lights in my kitchen ceiling... i want these sort as a transformer permanently on does'nt sit right with me like you find in the low volt options...... my question is do i need fire hoods if the ones i purchase are fire rated???? and before you ask no there isn't any insulation in my ceiling...... any info would be really appreciated.... also i've been told best way to insall them is on a loop..... take my origional ceiling rose supply twin and earth..... then feed this into a chocbox..... run some twin and earth 1mm diam.... into the same connection as the ceiling rose feed and take this to the next one and so on and so on..... on the empty end of each chocbox obviously i would connect each individual spot light ..... how does it sound????
Spots get hot. The better fire rated the better. Get hoods as well if you can - go nuts. and get more spots to make up for lower wattage bulbs to keep the heat down. You can get 'cool bulbs' but they are only cool in the way that a pan of boiling water is cooler than a space shuttle on re-entry.
Transformers burn out a lot going from 240 to 12v. Just stick with 240.
I would be extremely cautious with the way you are wiring it - you could be drawing more than your supplying cable can handle, melt it, and cause a fire.
The bravest man on site is the electrician - cos they are working with sh*t you cant see - and you dont want to feel it!
How do you knwo if a wire is live? Ask the apprentice! "You got the wire? Yeah? Well whatever you do dont touch the other one then!"
Seriously - dont do it mate! You may have a fault on your supply that you wont be able to test for and blast yourself.
