How to hang a chandelier (support weight question)?
I bought a new place and it had 2 track lightings in a hallway and abovie dinning room. I replaced the hallway with a light fixture from Ikea (simple).
The dinning room track lighting i want to replace with a chandelier we have. It's not big, weighs ~6-10lbs. I'm assuming that the track lighting also has a plastic box like the one i replaced. I'm also assuming that the box won't support the chandelier (or will it?). Will i need added support? any recommendations for a non-electrian?
Also, unlike the Ikea light fixture (which had black and white wires), the chandelier has 2 silver wires. do i just hook them up to see what works?

if you have access to the attic above the fixture it is a good idea to span the truss space with an additional support for any larger hanging fixtures. the current box is going to be mounted to the framing members but it is easy to install additional support so why not. and it doesn't matter which lead is hot or neutral on a light fixture. you just have to complete the circuit. connect either wire to the black or white. lights are non polarized.
