How can I stop my dog from chewing on himself?
My dog is about nine years old and he has been chewing and licking on his leg in two different spots. We put medication that stops itching on it, and he just licked it off. We took him to the vet and they gave him medicine, but the medicine didn't help and he's still licking. The vet also said he might be depressed and to get him a friend, so we got a cat. He's still licking. Just today we got him a cone for his head (you know those lamp shade things). Well, even with the cone on him he can still lick his leg(its his left hind leg if it really matters.)
This habit is becoming very obsessive for him and you can hardly get him to stop.
Does anyone know anything that I can do?

There's a few things you can try.
First, change his diet. As dog's age they become more sensitive to ingredients than they were when they were younger.
Corn, wheat, soy, milk, chicken and beef all cause itchy skin.
Look into Innova EVO. It's doing wonderful things for itchy dogs.
California Natural, Wellness, Canidae and Artemis are all great.
Start supplements. A multi-vitamin (yes, they make them for dogs) and one specially for his coat and skin.

He could need more exersize.
Use sound to make him stop. Shake a penny can, bang a pan, distract him from the licking. You have to do it EVERY TIME!
