Corrosion/rust on my silver-plated brass instrument?
I have a silver trombone that I left sitting in a dark room that's normally around 70 degrees for around a month, playing it on and off. I just realized in a bright light that it has extremely noticeable amber-colored water stains almost covering the entirety of the instrument. I hadn't washed it with water without completely drying it off for two months before then.
My question... what is it, and what can get rid of it?
Tis oxidation you see, quite normal. Given enough time your instrument will be a solid black one. To clean it just get a very mild silver polish and use it lightly. The only way to keep the oxidation off is to keep air away from the instrument, store it in a plastic bag or use a wax on it.
