My lamp requires a Class A 40 Watt bulb, is it OK if I use a 26 watt energy-saving bulb?
Or instead of buying 40 Watt bulb, can I buy a Class A 60 Watt or 20 watt bulb?
If we're talking about an ordinary reading lamp, you could use a 20 or 40-watt bulb. The only reason I wouldn't use a 60-watt bulb is because of the heat it would generate. The lamp housing could get too hot.
You can use just about any size of energy-saving bulb, though. They don't generate nearly the heat that an ordinary bulb does, so you could use one that's rated at the equivalent of a 60 or 100-watt bulb if you wanted to, assuming that the body of the bulb isn't too big for the housing around it.
