why do ceiling fans have five blades and not six?
Mine has six blades, and it has a 2' 6" diameter. It is a standard operational ceiling fan, and it has absolutely no problems. I would guess that the more blades you have, the shorter the blades would have to be to accomodate the weight of all of the spinning blades. If you use less blades, then you can make them longer, but you won't have as much "wind". I would guess that 5 is the happy medium in the equation.
