To what extent was Florence the key factor in the development of the Italian economy during 1400-1500?
this is my coursework essay title, i have done alot of research into Florence's guilds, politics and trade and am doing that very well! i am also comparing florence to Papal States to show how florence was more advanced in its society. The thing im having trouble is "key factor in the development of the Italian economy " im soooo confused!!!! the city states at this time were in uproar and the church were paying mercenaries! as well as florence and at war with each other! i cant see how there was a development on economy! florence were in dept and the medici family had to come back into florentine society to support them financially! only thing i can think of the silk guild and wool guild 1400-1428 and 1428 is war! until florence is defeated by the spanish in 1497 and everything florentine based was dumped....help?
