What voltage should I use for these LED strips?
I'm trying to string together a series of three LED strips, the sort that you see in the automotive accessories at Wal-Mart or Autozone. The packaging for each strip says it requires 12 volts of power, but the instructions don't mention anything about wiring them together. Should I use 36 volts, then? (Incidentally, the demonstration battery pack is at 15 volts, but the question would be the same.)
With LEDs, undervoltage just means they don't light up or light up as brightly as they should. Overvoltage means that you fry the LEDs so it would be better to have not enough than too much. You need to figure out what are the amperage requirements and most likely they just need 12 hooked into them.
Also it makes a difference if you wire them in parallel or series because you will need more voltage in series (most likely not 36 volts much but a tad more than 12) whereas in parallel just 12 will be just fine.
