Can I put steel strings on a guitar that originally had brass strings?
I have a Yamaha FG700S. If I can't use steel strings, what kind of brass strings should I get? (light, medium...) This is my first time replacing the strings.
Yes, you can use steel strings (designed for an electric guitar)
but I'd recommend staying with acoustic strings
they will sound better
Mediums sound better (more bass) and last longer,
lights are easier to play (easier on the fingers)
Some companies now make a "custom lite"
which means "light gauge" on the higher strings, so they bend easier,
and medium gauge on the bottom (bass) end, so they still have the big bass sound
