How to do indoor Natural Light Photography?
I am interested in photography and was given a Canon 50D for my birthday. I have been shooting on automatic because I haven't learned how to use it yet. Can anyone give me pointers to shoot indoors using natural light to get great shots w/o a flash? I try shooting indoors and they are either completely dark or blurry. Any help would be great...speaking my language instead of using terms I do not understand. Thank you so much!
Jessica, have you taken the time to READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera? If not then that's what you should be doing. Taking a couple of photography classes would be an ideal way to learn to actually use your camera.

http://www.calculator.org/exposure.aspx Choose a Scene (such as 'Domestic interiors at night'), an ISO (such as 800) and when you click on Calculate you'll be rewarded with a list of f-stop/shutter speed combinations. A room that appears well-lit to you won't appear the same to your camera.

Your camera is really just a dumb box. Think of it as a tool that you can use to make photographs. After all, you wouldn't give a hammer, saw, some nails and a pile of lumber to a 6 yr. old and expect the same results as you would if you gave them to a journeyman carpenter would you? Of course you wouldn't.
Its up to you to educate yourself about photography and that means learning about light, composition, exposure and depth of field. Without that knowledge you might occasionally produce a decent photograph but most of your photographs will only be worth deleting.
