What are the effects of a light bulb if voltage is decreased but watts are kept the same?
Lets say I have a 120V, 75 Watt light bulb. But instead of powering it with 120V I power it with 12V, and 6.25A of current so I still have 75 Watts. What will be the effect on the bulb?
you can't do that with one bulb. As you lower the voltage, the current goes down, and the power goes down, by ohms law.
In other words, the bulb has a resistance of from
P = E²/R
75 = 120²/R
R = 192 ohms
When it is cold, that will go down to perhaps 100 ohms.
Now if you apply 12 volts, you will get I=E/R or 12/100 or 0.12 amps
This is a power of P=EI = 12x0.12 = 1.44 watts, a far cry from 75 watts. the bulb won't even glow.
