Clear square panels left and right of the podium when the president speaks in public?
If anyone has ever noticed, whenever the president (and other political officials as well) speak in public, usually to the left and to the right of the podium there are clear square panels that seem to be elevated about head-hight and at an approximate 45 to 60 degree angle. Are these to eliminate audio feedback, for lighting or are the some sort of security measure? Just what exact purpose do they serve? They don't seem as if they would be very effective for any purpose, given their small size.
