Why do the instructions say I can't use a dimmer w/ my new light fixture?
I just bought a lighted pot rack from Lowe's (Portfolio brand). When I read the instructions before installing the fixture, it says "Do not install on dimming circuit". There is already a dimmer switch going to that ceiling box from the old fixture. Why would I not be able to use the dimmer for this particular light? It takes 2 50-watt mini floodlight bulbs. Thank you
You ask why, not for a detailed code explanation. Are these 50 watt floodlight bulbs low voltage? If so that would mean there is a transformer involved and a dimmer wouldn't work well in that situation. As somebody else said, if they are fluorescent bulbs it takes a special dimmer and ballast to dim them. I would suggest just changing the dimmer switch out for a standard toggle switch.
