2002 Nissan Xterra fuel filtering info?
Does anyone know if the fuel filtering system is "good"?
Mom had sugar poured into her gas tank and is worried that her car will be totaled. However, the engine being completely ruined is slimmer in modern cars because today, cars have a more sophisticated fuel filter systems designed to catch junk and prevent it from reaching the engine.
I understand she'll be stuck with having to flush it out, and replace things like fuel pump, injectors, etc..
But I'm curious if a 2002 system is "modern" enough?
After the events in Arizona (headshot) might not be a good screen name. Sugar will settle at the bottom of the fuel tank and slowly disolve only in the moisture inside the tank. Thru the back seat all the fuel can be syphioned out with the fuel sending unit and pump removed soak up the remaining fuel with towels. Please be cautious no open flames or gas water heaters should be anywhere near. Don't go up in flames burn down your house. Most time if the car was not driven after sugar just cleaning the tank and a fill up with premium will do the job. If driven till the motor stalls because moisture and sugar gets sucked in the entire fuel system may need to be replaced. Thousands of dollars..
