In BJJ is it disrespectful to submit a purple belt if your a white belt?
I have been doing BJJ for 1 year and a half now, never in a gi so I actually don't go for belts, I get the privilege of rolling with students of Various belts and experience levels, I was recently rolling with a purple belt and we went at it full on, I get sweeped and knee ridden lol and I actually sweeped him a few as will, I could tell he was getting desperate and tired cos he intentionally ripped my shirt when I was on top, I got upset and slamed him, we were the only guys on the mat so everyone was watching us, I caught him in an anaconda choke, rolled and as I walked into him to finish the move and I knew I had him cos he was gurgling but i just felt it would be weird and uncomfortable being around a guy I tapped that is suppose to be better than me, so I let go and quickly transitioned to the mount and let the time run out

But you also did the right thing, if you have a guy and have him dead to rights and he isn't tapping, there is no need to prove anything. Let it go and move on. Give him enough time to try to get out, if he is just gurgling, no sense in holding it on until he goes out.
For that guy it shouldn't be a matter of pride like that, in training ego shouldn't be involved, if you get caught you get caught.
The beauty of rolling and sparring is that it is beneficial for both parties, as such you should always do your best to win. That helps you and the other guy, because ultimately whomever you face in a real fight or competetion is going to not pull any punches or take it easy, you both have to be prepared. That doesn't mean treat every rolling session like a fight, it just means that the better you do, the better your partner has to become, so you both get better. Spazzing out and powerbombing someone in the gym isn't worth it, because you aren't learning any real technique with that.
The only thing you did wrong was lose your cool a little bit. That's bound to happen sometimes, but sounds like you cooled off enough to not be an @ss and choke out a training partner. On the other hand he let his emotions and pride get the best of him.
Sooner or later he will have to deal with it, but it is never disrespectful to submit or do better than a higher rank in sparring, especially in BJJ.
