Digital coax audio cable & analog cable...is there a differance?
Is a digital coaxial audio cable much different from a regular coax cable used for cable vision? Digital audio cables appear to be a lot more expensive than regular coax cable and the only noticeable difference is the Digital audio cables have nickel looking or gold RCA connectors. The digital coax audio cables appear to have more insulation making them thicker and some even have arrows pointing in one direction and they cost MONSTER prices (like $89 for a 6 ft cable...Canada). Maybe the Digital coax audio cables have multi strands as opposed to the single copper wire of the cable vision coax cable.
I am wondering because my old DVD player that had an optical audio cable...went south so I have been looking at a new upconverting DVD (until the war is over...between Beta & VHS) Panasonic DVD-S53 for $139.99 Canadian. It's on sale (everything in Canada is double the price). These new DVD players use digital coax audio cables. Maybe I should make my own!!!!! No I don't & won't do ebay.
I've used video cables for digital audio for years in my system with no problems. Radio Shack's gold connector ones. (They may not make them any more. In which case, I'd get something with gold connectors for $10-$20.)
And this is not cheapo system ... total investment around $20k. I just spend the money on stuff that matters: speakers, prepro, amps, etc., not cables.
