In open great room/kitchen is it better to stain the trim or paint it if if the doors are stained wood?
We are building a new home in the mountains of North Carolina and our foyer/great room/kitchen area is all open to a view in the back of the house. I asked for stained wood doors but now the builder wants to know if I want the trim stained or painted. Since I'm leaning toward a somewhat darker stain for the wood, should I paint the trim in the room instead of staining it the same color? There will also be large timberframe type beams on the ceiling and paneling on the ceiling(probably a lighter color stain though).
Paint the trim. It will give you a nice clean look and make both the trim and the wood floors stand out.
