Does anyone know anything about sending a package to a submarine that is out to sea? Specifically, I have an address, but I am not sure of any details. Such as how long it will take to ship and the likely hood of it ever reaching my friend. I am going to take a chance and send it but I am trying to find more information.
Look...from what I've been told when you send mail to a sub... it goes to a navy base gets sorted and sent to the next port that sub will be at. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with sending a package to a sailor on a sub and can give me advice. On things like what to send and if it will get there or not.
The best answer you're going to get is from anyone who says don't send anything too perishable and don't expect anything to get there on time.
The letter that you drop into the US mail goes to a clearing house for the military where they put it into the military mail service. How fast it gets out of there depends on a lot of things like space available and knowledge of schedules.
A lot of times the sub schedule is secret and it changes a TON so port calls aren't always where they had planned to be even just a few days ago. I've sent stuff to my subbie that got to the next port call and the sub just fine. And I've sent stuff that followed him around the world and found him the week after he pulled in at home.
