What size chain should i get for a Tiffany's Locket?
I am buying a Tiffany's locket for my girlfriend, but i dont know what size chain to get her, 16, 18, or 20 inch.... i dont want it to be a choker, but i also dont want it to be like a pendant hanging to her bellybutton. I want it to be like a necklace. shes a swimmer, so her neck is a little bigger than average, if there even a noticeable difference at all. What size should i get for her?
A 16" is usually the shortest sold in any quantity, but are typically reserved for "chokers"; that is the kind that hit an average built teen/young lady at the base of the throat where the two collarbones form an indentation. Most chains for pendants are standard 18", which would allow others to view when a casual V-neck top is being worn. Another way to describe that length is picturing a button-up blouse with the top button open, and the locket can then be seen by others. I am assuming this locket would hold a photo or other keepsake, and not be worn while swimming. If not, and sports are involved, 20" may be too long (figure that 24" generally slips over ones' head.) Depending on the size of the locket, I will advise that you make sure the chain is sturdy enough and that the bail (opening that the chain goes through) is going to allow what ever chain you purchase to fit. Much depends on personal preference!
