What did you and your friends do to entertain yourselves as 'young' children?
What type of fun activities? In our neighborhood we, played army, baseball. We also played my favorite, Kick ball IN THE STREET. (It was safe back in the mid 60's.) We put on plays or singing shows for the neighborhood. We played red light, green light, hopscotch was a big thing, and also Chinese jump rope. We did light yard work, pulling weeds for neighbors to earn some candy money. We made clover necklaces, and strung clover from the lawns, from one end of the block to another to see who could make the longest. We had a small park just about 3 blocks away, we could enjoy playing on slides, swings, teeter totters etc. and we could go alone. It was safe to do thatMom's were great when they hooked up the sprinklers for us to run through on a hot summer day. Listened to 45's on our record players. Rode bikes, and had races around the block with our bikes. Took hikes down an old road where we could eat a picnic lunch, and watch the towboats. Plenty of exercise compared to todays kids! 
As a youngster of the '50's, my friends & I got together & did the following:
*Had tea parties
*Played dress up
*Played Jumprope
*Played Hide & Seek
*Played Rover, Red Rover, Send------- right over
*Roller skated (outside)
*Rode our bikes in the neighborhood
*Played with Hoola Hoops
*Played Jacks (ball & jacks)
*Played with our dolls, doll houses
*Played on the swingsets of those friends who had one
*Played Old Maid
*Walked to the West End of town where we lived & visited *George's Variety Store, where we bought candy, gum, etc.
*Cooled off in backyard blowup swiming pools or ran through the lawn sprinkler
*Played Mother May I?
*Played Stone School
*Listened to our records (45's)
*Called the boys
*Picnics in each other's backyards
