How can I convert a 3 light vanity fixture to a one light sconce ?
Lowe's only sold the vanity light. I bought two of those. I tried the manufacturer's website-no luck. I thought I could just cut the two ends off but how do I handle the extra wires? I want it to be safe.
If you wanted it to be perfectly safe, you can replace the places the excess bulbs would be with a resistor of the proper size. (Find out the ohmage and current through one of the bulbs; this should be stamped on the bulb or packaging somewhere.) Alternatively, you could just wrap the ends of the wire in tape or heatshrink tubing such that they do not connect to any metal or any of the other wires. Make sure you use electrical tape or some other type of flame resistant tape, just in case something happens. The lamps should be wired in parallel, so either of these methods should work. I would recommend just terminating the wires without using resistors; it will cost less, and the fixture will draw less current and save you money while being just as safe.
