Six Light Candle
Would PETA members be sad that I slaughtered six suckling goat kids today because I am serving cabrito at a?
party this weekend? My knives were sharp and my cuts deep; should I expect them to come to my house and hold a candle-light vigil for the goats?
I raise meat goats, and I sell directly to my customers. My customers butcher the goats here on my farm.
Unlike any of the other people answering this question, I actually know that butchering a goat with a properly slit throat is THE most humane death for the animal. It cut off the air and blood supply, and severs the nerves, so the animal feels no pain. It's more humane than shooting a goat in the head. I most closely mimics the animal falling into a deep sleep (verified by studies done by a major University on different butchering methods).
However I must say, your question completely offends me. I a small farmer, who raises my livestock in sustainable and humane ways. My goats are with their herd until minutes before death. They are never stressed by being transported to a slaughter house. They are never stressed by being forced to live in unnatural conditions. Just large pastures, living with their mothers and the herd their entire lives. Shelter, fresh water, hay, salt, minerals. My farm is the type people think about when they picture they ideal farm.
And here you are giving people the idea that it's bad, cruel, and even funny that you are butchering goat kids.
Instead of poking sharp sticks at PETA, an organization with millions of dollars in funding, and Hollywood stars which perform as spokespersons for PETA, why don't you instead stand up for the small farmer like myself? Why don't you state how much you appreciate the ability to find your food locally, even the flesh you consume? Why don't you state that you appreciate small farmers who raise livestock in clean, humane, and ethical ways, providing you with clean healthy animals you can eat, who you know have lived a decent life until they were butchered?
PETA does not go after people like you. PETA goes after people like me. PETA continues to get more and more laws passed which drive more and more ethical and humane small farmers out of business.
Go ahead and keep making fun of PETA, instead of supporting small farmers. See how many more you drive out of business. Petty soon the only goat you'll be able to enjoy is a frozen one from Australia.
