LED home lighting power supply?
I have recently acquired some 2.2w LED bayonet socket bulbs, I was going to buy a 12v DC power supply seeing as the data sheet calls for that. It does not specify the Amperage so i am assuming the bulb regulates its self, will I need to buy a supply that has a constant current or one that will provide the constant 12v required to run the LED bulbs? how should i wire them? In series/parallel? I have appx. 6 bulbs that I was wanting to make flexible piped lamps that came from either my wall or ceiling, all i need to know is parallel or series and whether or not i need a supply with a constant current or constant amperage
A 2.2 watt lamp will draw about 0.18 amps. So, with six bulbs connected in parallel, you'll need a 12v power supply than can provide 6 x .18 = 1.08 amps minimum (go for 2 amps). A 2 amp power supply will allow you to add about 4 more lamps.
You cannot connect them in series unless you get a 6 x 12 = 72 volt power supply. That's a non-standard value.
Connect them in parallel to a constant 12 v source at 2 amps. The lamps will only draw the amperage they need.
