Tier Entry
I'm looking for entry level IT job but I get staffing or contract jobs. Can someone explain to me what this is?
I'm done with 2 years of BS in Computer Science and I am looking to get Tier 1 Help Desk, Tech Support jobs. Most of these job is from staffing company and contract jobs. What are these? I'm new to this type of employment. Can anyone explain to me in detail?

When you make a search and find jobs on dice,monster, careerbuilder ..these job postings are not from the Actual company(software companies) ..., but you will see all consulting firms to which you have to send your resumes to..now like you 100s of other will be sending their job application for a particular position to these consulting firm..!!! What does these consulting firm does is it filters out the resume to find top 3-4 candidates they think match the position.
Now...the people who are gonna make decision if we qualify or not are these consulting firms... who know nothing about the technology or who has zero technical knowledge...and they select candidates resume by comparing it with the requirement...word to word....More matches higher chances u get thru...as i told these people are total idiots who decide our career.... this is frustrating......!!
Now if you are lucky to be shorlisted..then they will talk to you and forward it to client (the actual company) for further process..
Now if the client likes u r resume...they may set up a phone interview and eventually face to face if they like you.
Role of this consulting firms: They are nothing then someone who sits in between the clients and the applicant. You work hard and earn money and these consultancy firm makes money out of your hard work.They are someone who has zero knowledge ...but try to decide the careers of software engineers.,,, manytimes you may have more than one consulting firm in between...eg...
You ==> Consulting firm1 ==> consulting firm2 ==> Client
Who gets the money :
If you are total you'll get 30 dollars/hr... your actual billing would be 40 dollars/hr from the client... so where did u r $10/hr go..
5 dollars to consulting firm1 and 5 dollars to consulting firm 2....
They make money out of your hard work.
Your Question:
Contract Jobs: Contract jobs are something in which you are payed hourly and job duration may vary until the client needs you.
Once the client feels they have all out of you and they dont need you they will let you go..without any notice and you cant ask any questions ..no bonding involved...we just have to leave on the spot.
I am a software engineer...and really frustrated with these middle layer vendors and consulting firms...I face this everyday and now that the market is bad... they prefer someone they know or who is ready
to work for less and forward it to client..so they make more money for themselves...
