Stripped engine bolts....?
On my ATV the bolts for the clutch cover and the pull start cover are all stripped. They are in there real tight and yamaha had the wonderful idea to use a philips screw driver head on them so when you turn to loosen them after they sit and rust for 15 years they are like swiss cheese. They are also recessed into the above mentioned covers so vice grips won't do jack. Is there any way I can get these out??
Use a drill and a 1/4 inch drill bit or so and drill the heads off of the screws. Keep checking to be sure you are not past the head and drilling into the shield. Then when you get all the stripped heads off and the cover removed take out the threaded portions with a vice grip. I have a set of left hand drill bit for taking out screws and bolts and alot of times the bit will grab hard and spin the screw right out and i dont even need to continue drilling the head off or drilling it out for an easy out.
