Step down AC transformer?
My 220 to 110 step down transformer fell from refrigerator top and is not working properly. I am do it yourself type. The circuit looks very simple. Out of the two input wires one goes to coil (which is compact and I haven't opened it yet) and other goes straight to output. From this straight-to-output, one bifurcation (bifurcation would mean the two have same volt always) goes to coil. Also one wire exits from coil and forms the second of the two ends of output. Coil is covered in black paper which I have not yet opened and so do not see wires where they attach to coil. Comments please - how to fix and what.
you could try switching to the other side of the secondary .. i think you said it had two identical taps..

The only way the transformer would stop is if one of the leads is disconnected..
so you would have to connect the wire either the primary feed wire or the secondary wire to the coil possibly a coil wire is broken as they are usually small diameter.
if you get 0 VOLTAGE from the secondary taps at all
then its likely you have a primary tap that is broken
if you get a voltage on the secondary only half of it ..then you have a broken secondary on the other connection
if you have a voltage only across the whole secondary and you need the center tap then its the center tap that is broken
otherwise transformers are very simple devices ...if you try to connect a wire you must remember to scrape the enamal off the wire before connecting as the tranformer wires are coated to keep them from shorting.
if you damaged the coils then its garbage.. sorry..
