Survey: What should I do to turn a "noisy" room, into a recording studio-quiet room?
The room is in a house made of whatever weak material houses are made of, you know... the kind you could punch a whole through and it's basically hollow inside. I want to make it infinite 0db (zero decibels) inside, but I also want to avoid noise and other interference coming through the walls.
I'm a musician and want to make some nice recordings at home. But I haven't the slightest when it comes to making a room for recording. I've heard nightmare stories about cell phones that have ruined professional recordings, just because of the radio interference. Air conditioning units, polluted power feeds, loud fluorescent lights, and lighting, etc...
You could hear everything through these walls...and carpeted floor. I want to record myself on classical guitar and be able to capture every nuance it makes.
1, Turn off any airflow (fan, heat or a/c) in that room.
#2. Double the wallboard; second layer of sheet rock, preferably with an air gap between the two layers of sheet rock.
#3. Disconnect doorbells, garage door openers, microwave ovens, stop the grandfather clock, and anything else that is capable of making beeps, bells, buzzer, or any other noise.

#4. Hardwood floor if you want a good recording room (that is if you are a musician) or extra-thick wall carpet to wall with rugs on top of that and acoustic foam on the walls if you want a "dead" room (because all "recording engineers" want to play with digital effects rather than live rooms.)
#5. Anybody who is not directly involved in the recording process needs to leave ... "Bye, bye. Enjoy the mall or the movies"
#6 Use condenser microphones rather than dynamic mics.
