If the flood recorded in the bible was world wide, wouldn't it have slowed down the earth's rotation?
Assuming the flood recorded in the bible (and other historical books) was world wide (some say it was local) surely it would have affected the time the earth took to rotate. Just like a ballerina, if you shift your weight out (by extending your arms) the period of rotation slows down.
So likewise, for the time that the water was at the earth's surface, the mass would have shifted outwards, therefore slowing the earths rotation considerably.
If this is true, was it historically recorded anywhere?
There is no geological evidence that "the flood" in The Bible was world wide, unless you are talking about the Earth before there were any continental granitic land masses. That was a VERY long time ago. "The Flood" is very likely an ancestral memory handed down orally long before writing was developed. Many cultures have a flood story. The legend of Gilgamesh from the Babylonians has a flood story. The Bible flood very likely happened when either the Mediterranean or the Black Sea was formed.
